Controlling Your Thoughts 1

Many times we may think that we can’t control our thoughts. God clearly gives us the power and ability to control what we think.  But this is something we as children of God must exercise to be successful.

I.                 Proverbs 6:18 reveals that we can control our thoughts.

1. Pro 6:16 These six [things] doth the LORD hate: yea, seven [are] an abomination unto him:

Pro 6:18  An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations,

2.    To imagine something you have to think about it.

3.    What are you spending time imagining or meditating on.

4.    You can chose to think on what you chose to.

5.    All the devil can do is give you a sedative thought.

6.    You have to choose to accept it or not.

II.            You can control your thoughts

1.    God has given us tools to use but we must use them to successfully defeat the ungodly thoughts that are trying to cause us to miss God.

2.    2Cr 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

3.    We understand that what we think on eventually we will do.

III.        Our thoughts produce our actions.

1.    See why mediation is so important in God.

2.    Pictures are painted by words

3.    Whose words are you painting a picture of God or the devil?

4.    Phil. 4:8-9 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things. Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

5.    The devil has been stealing our peace by what we have been thinking on.

6.    Isa 26:3  Thou wilt keep [him] in perfect peace, [whose] mind [is] stayed [on thee]: because he trusteth in thee.

7.    Believe and exercise this word.

8.    Enjoy the peace of God today.
